The Taiwanese military has begun making considerable strides to acquire weapons that can strike the Chinese mainland instead of having to fight a future invasion force in its own waters, air space, and beaches. Since the late 1990s, Taiwan has been developing its own „offensive“ missiles, discouraged by the United States, which hews to the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) between the G7 countries which mandates that countries not develop conventional missiles or UAVs over 500 kg to a range of at least 300 km.
